Australia Post have released a single 50c stamp featuring a rose.

From Australia Posts literature:
“The rose has a rich symbolic life and in recent centuries has become closely associated with love, beauty and passion. This rose design is influenced by the artistic tradition of botanical illustration. It shows a single bloom on a parchment-like background.
Simone Sakinofsky is responsible for designing the red rose stamp and related products. Initially with the Australia Post Design Studio as a student designer, Simone joined the studio on completion of her studies at RMIT in 2005.”

The issue will also feature a scented self-adhesive sheetlet of stamps. Using a flexographic process, the backing contains million of micro bubbles containing rose scent.

Papua New Guinea Protected Birds - Jan 2008

PNG have issued a set of stamps marking protected birds in the territory.

The set of 6 stamps include:

10t Papuan Hornbill
50t Osprey
85t New Guinea Harpy Eagle
K1 Black Palm Cockatoo
K3 Victoria Crowned Pigeon
K5.35 Great White Egret

The minisheet will contain a K10 version of the K1

In addition, there will be a sheetlet, containing all six stamps and a first day cover.

Hong Kong ‘Heartwarming’ Stamps - 28 Dec 2007

Hong Kong post have issued a set of 4 ‘heartwarming’ stamps.

Heartwarming stamps carry congratulatory messages, making them perfect tokens of goodwill. While the themes of “Love and Care” and “Celebrations” have run through all issues, this issue introduces felt appliqué to lend a warm and soft touch to these stamps. A simple design blends a myriad of colours with delightful stitch patterns to highlight the subject of each stamp. “Love and Care” is represented by affectionate birds and cosy slippers - symbols of romantic love and family bonds, while “Celebrations” features Chinese firecrackers and attractive presents to evoke a festive mood.These Heartwarming stamps bear a “Local Mail Postage” or “Air Mail Postage” marking instead of value indicators. The “Local Mail Postage” stamps are valid on local mail items weighing not more than 30 grams (valued at $1.40) and the “Air Mail Postage” stamps can be used for sending airmail items weighing 20 grams or less (valued at $3).

Cyprus / Malta Joint Issue On Joining The Euro - 01 Jan 2008

1st January 2008 sees Cyprus and Malta joining the euro, bringing the number of countries which have the euro as their national currency to 15.

To commemorate this event, both countries are issuing a miniature sheet, consisting of two stamps, which will be circulated on 1st Jan 2008

Singapore Year of the Rat - 18 Jan 2008

Singapore will issue the next set in the zodiac series on 18 January 2008. This year it is the Year of the Rat - 3 stamps will be issued with values of 1st Local (26c), 65c, $1.10.

To celebrate the opening of Singapore Changi Airports third terminal, the postal authority will issue a set 4 stamps with values of 1st Local (26c), 65c, $1.10 & $2 on 9th January 2008.

Botswana Butterfly Definitives - 01 Nov 2007

We’ve just received word that Botswana issued a new set set of defintives on 1st November.

The set of 14 stamps feature butterlies from the territory. Values range from 10t to P20.
